you have the whole thing there as usual. just a regular legged league with five teams. ten weeks of play in total with two weeks of rest for each team (eight matches in total per team). if you have any question regarding the choices or anything just let me know.

Does it really need to be two legged? Would not simple league with some great final match be long enough already?

I think that one leg would come up short specially considering the teams formation. the standard setup I guess it would be to have one legged group and the finals (i.e. from semi finals on wards) but in this particular case, with all due respect, I assume that unless someone withdraws the rest of the positions might vary but the fifth place is virtually already known so quite frankly it would come across merely as fill up, not good. if you wanna short it somehow one interesting possibility I guess that it can be to eliminate the fifth place for the second leg which would result then in a bit smaller second leg (three weeks instead of five). have only a straight up final after a group stage leg it would come across as inconclusive to me as I'd expect it to be very disputed and only really get (meaningfully) decided until the second leg once you add everything (which has exactly been the case on all the finals so far) so my opinion would be just to leave it and potentially just cut the fifth place for the second leg if everyone is ok with that. that looks like the best option to me given the actual setup.

We should discuss the map pool for this tournament. I think we can all agree that previous tournaments have had too many maps to choose from. I suggest keeping the map pool at 7 maps, potentially 9 depending on how the Grand Final will be structured

for a legged league you need at least a dozen maps. assuming not everyone is gonna pick the same then you need minimum 20+ maps so it doesn't get boring/repetitive/predictable etc etc that has been discussed way too many times already, the pool is as large and varied as the players that actually form the tournament which is indeed very diverse. moreover as also stated plenty of times the fact that a map is available it doesn't mean that it has to be played or even that it will be played at all as at the end of the day only that has been picked and not blocked will be played so having more to chose from it only adds to the tournament. nothing is forced upon anyone (not even a tie-breaker which is part of the reason/motivation to remove them) so if something finally gets played it's because someone ultimately picked it and it didn't get blocked, meaning that indeed it was called for and all the maps of that pool are top tier, popular and very well known maps. as for the final/s there will be no such thing, the final positions would come out directly from the legged league results as written on the scheme and as already explained here. if you have further questions ask.

Don't you think some of the favoured maps to be removed? Will show a bit more skill set if you play with maps you don't know so well or play so well , I know the blocking thing but the system isn't very good in some respects

You are wrong. This is not a professional scene, where knowledge of maps is the basis for agreeing on choices and bans. This is a community tournament, in which only server settings should be constant. The list of maps should be large. However, classic versions of maps should not be included, only their expanded, larger versions. (7++ without dm7, etc.) everyone knows that maps like dm6,dm7 are not good for freezetag 5v5. we should talk about this in a separate post, where players would finally have a real say in the map list. This should be the case because there are maps, or rather most maps, especially classic ones, that are simply not suitable for 5v5 play. Only during the finals should there be the most frequently played maps, without taking bans into account. Apart from that, the division into two ledges should only be present during the main event in autumn.

I think pro-q3dm6 is actually better than 6++ for this specific settings and play. as for 7++ I also agree that is (marginally) better than q3dm7 under normal circumstances, although I'm not even sure if it's better than the customized version of dm7 here (maybe not, close one). in any case, q3dm7 is like the third most popular map here while 7++ has only really be played at setup events and similar (ALL-Star, community etc) so it's really hard to argue against that.

every map can be played in 5v5 as you also see at prolly 1v1 maps like dm13 for example, you can play whatever map overall. some like that dm13 stuff, some like dm7. we already discussed such stuff and it turns out that most of the players want "action". nobody seems to play strategical, most players only want to mess with their accuracys, which i totally not understand. why are those pickups so boring because you always play the same shit anyways. 6++ bal3 and charon seems to be very popular for example. nobody seems to use brain, just hop into fight and just see who got the better rail! :D were playing freezetag here, with a mix of tdm and clan arena based roundsystem - no teamdamage no selfdamage. i always hear dm7 suxx, overkill suxx blablabla. you always have the choice to play different, test something etc. nobody has to just "camp" on red, nobody forces you to do that :D be glad at some point that you can even choose between so many maps, theres fast paced, slow maps etc. i know that i also was talking a lot about "competetive maps". but as you see even such non competetive maps like bal3, charon or even goldleaf turns out to be attractive for many players. the "competetive" ones like dm7 or dm14 in case of tdm for example always get called boring camp maps.
*edit
and btw im hoping that adminless maybe decides to add some more "classics", like common rocket arena maps could be crazy funny at some point. :D
Prepare for fake .WTF!

yeah, very good points, that's what I was talking, as can clearly be seen the list is that large because there's a demand for such a variety of choices and maps/strategies and that's what this is about, excitement and fun, not just mono dimensional games that play always the same and I think the pool reflect all those styles for the most part not just a specific one so hopefully the tournament can appeal and be fun/playable for a broader group of people. that's what elevates a competition and not the other way around.

Sure, you can play any map, which people prove every day on public servers. the basis of a good map in freezetag gameplay is its size. the bigger the better. as little camping as possible + fighting in every place on the map that requires it. apart from that, just unfreezing someone a kilometer away could cause a lot of surprises, which is unfortunately rare for us because we sometimes play maps so big that a rocket flies from one end to the other in two seconds. powerups would definitely add dynamics and interest. this should be tested some day
