2024 forum update

Post by adminless »

just letting you all know here that following the main server and other server updates this month finally this morning as well I also updated all the forum instalment to all latest available versions that it had been like a year without any further maintenance since the last time I posted here. contrary to the usual procedure that I was following here this time I made a "live" update instead of a fully "clean" update (which basically involved resting everything) so the users settings and related things (ex. sessions) should be persevered instead this time (I mean, hopefully) although in the next days I'll probably also reset all the forum PM's for sanity as usual from time to time (so make sure to save any conversation you might want/need there). I already tested it in a couple of computers and browsers and for the most part the site seems to be running just like usual to me so check it out and if anything just let me know (i.e. write here or if not possible just use the forum contact form). as usual in case of any issues (ex. not being able to login/post, broken browsing etc), not just with the site update but in general with the site, make sure to first try to clean the site cookies and cache data in your browser beside obviously using a "sensible" browser/system to access the site (ex. it appears since the last year or so the site is no longer accessible from around five plus years system/browsers due unsupported, by that time, root certificates and encryption routines just like that [meaning without modification]. that has nothing to do with the site, that's legacy client browser/system issue that it's simply no longer updated with modern day standard [outdated]). needless to say all the same site features and functionalities has been installed and as bonus it turns out there's still a bunch more styles available for this version of the forum that I also installed and I even ended up also installing a Persian localisation that was missing before and I assume that it might be interesting for those in the middle east (if any) so you probably wanna check out all those things among others in your user control panel. simply put I just installed the whole latest available version full thing as usual, I think that the only notorious thing still missing now would be the Hindi localisation that from what I saw and I've been actively looking up it's just not available neither in production (which quite frankly it's very hard to understand) so I guess that unless some of you wanna pull that off unfortunately there will be no Hindi language available for the forum any time soon.

additionally in the previous days I also updated the webchat and the rest of the web/monitoring services so I guess that that should be all by now concerning this and this should ensure that the web part of the site continues to operate at a adequate standard at least for another season more and well into at least 2025 as long as people continue to support it/use it as usual of course.
