Imp, check out a handheld I made some years ago based on RPI.

Nowadays, It is all about FPGA - the MiSTer project is awesome for that. Will cover that soon on my blog retrohax.net
Meanwhile, check it out -> https://mister-devel.github.io/MkDocs_MiSTer/

Also, for all those DOS games fans out there, check out https://www.retro-exo.com/exodos.html

How the heck can a DOS game be almost 700 GB? :D I used to have a DOS CD with hundreds of games on it.

There are tons of these gadgets on the internet, but I don't know what criteria to use when choosing an emulator. Which one offers the best price/performance ratio in terms of hardware?

If you want a DOS emulator, then go for eXoDOS - everything is there https://www.retro-exo.com/exodos.html
If you want a hardware implementation solution (NOT EMULATOR, but FPGA implementation) then go for MiSTER - https://misterfpga.org/
If it is about other 8/16-bit solutions, then ask away as there are many :>

Actually, I wouldn't necessarily go in the DOS direction; I'm also interested in old NES/SNES games, etc.
There are hardware devices such as:https://www.aliexpress.com/p/tesla-land ... ZcEALw_wcB

But I don't know what the real difference between them is. There are loads of Indian tests on YouTube, but I don't understand what they're saying in English :D

I wouldn't recommend these Chinese clones, although they are relatively inexpensive.
If it is about NES/SNES emulators, then RetroArch is probably the most famous and well-documented -> https://www.retroarch.com/
I would use it unless you wanna have a handheld. I've built one myself 9 or 10 years ago -> https://retrohax.net/project-retroblade ... -part-two/
Nowadays, it could be built better :D

For me, the main points are:

1. It should be cheap.

2. It should be console-like.

3. It should be possible to play multiplayer games (Battle City or Contra, for example).

4. I can't think of anything else right now. But I don't want to play on a PC, because there's DOS Box and other emulators for that, I want to play on TV.

Then maybe try out RetroArch on a PC, and if you like it, then look for a handheld that is based on RetroArch?

Or go temu and buy hacked unit which has 1000+ games
