hello yes I remember you reached me through the contact form with that issue (answered back then btw probably look for it on your email spam/junk folder). as explained there yes probably that's due most browsers phasing out ftp nowadays so try the regular https download link above instead. let me know if you have any other issues.

Me2 , FTP is pain especiat via UK three network and some others they don't allow FTP in striaght first manner so iregular zip link download is good

yes I know it seems to be the case by 2021 standards. terrible idea in my opinion phase out ftp from mainstream use (far more from minimalist use) as I said other times to download public files (i.e. non confidential dmca stuff which is the case here as well as in 99.9% of the downloads on the internet) it generally works lot better than https (better throughout less cpu usage) but it's what it's. don't worry that in light of that I'll start to post (update what has been posted) with both links as I've already been doing with the demos links for example.

btw just letting you know that following the deployment of the new baltic/glacius2 server as well as this year maps/rotations revision the well known packages (ioq3v6-unfreeze-client-v20.5a.zip and/or fpsclasico-client-community-edition.zip) has been updated so it would be recommended/important that people update them as usual (i.e. save your cfg/files, delete and then just re-download and re-place) to stay in sync and don't miss the fun. as usual for any problem with them or anything else just let me know.

Hi,

first of all thank you for your insane effort and work!

I´d like to report a problem. When I play with your ioquake version, the game crashes.
It happens most of the time, like every 10 minutes when the unfreeze servers are full.
Gaming on Apple M4 Pro.
It doesn´t happen with the normal ioquake where the file is 17.9mb but as soon as I use your
file with 4.9mb, the warning of an undetected client disappears and it freezes.

I havent changed any settings beside ingame settings.

Hope you can make anything out of this, I would be thankful!

how exactly it "crashes"? does it take you take you back to operative system? does it take you back to the game menu? does the computer hang? I guess I have to refresh the usual package "soon" unfortunately first I still have to roll out the entire new servers setup which has higher priority. in the mean time, to be safe I think that you can probably try by doubling all the com_hunkmegs and com_zonemegs values in the package and see if that makes a difference.

Thank you for your fast answer!

I start the game and after some minutes it freezes. It does not take me back anywhere, it freezes ingame. The screen is stuck and the audio is hanging. Sounds like a broken CD, it plays the same fragment of sound (maybe half a second of audio) over and over again.
Mouse and keyboard aren‘t working anymore. No ESC button, nothing. The only way to quit the game is to eighter turn off the Mac with the power button or to use the keyboard to do a emergency exit (Option or Alt, Command and ESC).
After restarting the game, everything is like before, until it freezes again.
Everything else works fine, i also dont get the message for unferified files from your server.
I also tried to change the zonemegs and hunkalloc but it still freezes.
In the past with the normal ioquake i had hunkalloc problems. This i fixed by setting it to 512. When it crashes because of too less memory, an error message would appear recommending setting the values higher.

sounds probably like a compiler issue or a bug. as said, I hope I can refresh the package along these months so if anything I'll let you know. btw along with the ioquake3 binary are you as well using the provided sdl library or are you just using the ioquake3 binary with another sdl library that you have installed on the system? just to be safe you can probably try only the mac os binary package here and try to run that from command line and check if that doesn't hang. the audio could be a clue as well try manually setting up \s_sdlSpeed 44100 to be safe for example.

I use the fps classico community edition, and ive also tried the small edition without unnessecary files.
Also the server has to have a lot of players. Servers with just 2 players dont freeze.
Good point, i will try to use your ioquake with the normal install. I will also try to use your recommendations. I let you know if anything changes!

when i use the binary package it still freezes.

Update: Using your ioquake file with the normal Quake 3 install also does not work.

What i also notice is that in the hud the small red box where you can see the ping the blue line is not constant, it is like zigzag..
maybe thats a indicator for you.
afaik it always was smooth

hey thanks for the input, as said, I believe that in such case there must probably be some sort of compiler issue or bug there that is probably not gonna be solved like that. that said, if you want to rule out any kind of hardware/cfg issues, you can probably try to run the game with lesser visual settings from the menu, disable anisotropic filtering (\r_ext_texture_filter_anisotropic 0) and trying the "hardcore" settings embedded in the mod (\exec hardcore) for example and see if that makes any difference.

Update:

The file "unfreeze-2305.pk3" in the unfreeze folder is causing the crash. If I remove it, everything works.
Hardcore mode with the unfreeze file does work.
To turn off anisotropic filtering does not work eighter

Edit:

For now r_ext_compiled_vertex_array "0" and r_ext_multitexture "0" works.
will keep u updated.

mmmm ok that's a important update, I'm glad to hear you're making progress and I'm sorry that you're experiencing this issue. that hopefully then should tell you the problem is in the mod itself, and likely in one of its settings, rather than the engine and that should be easier to patch/work around. just to be safe could you try to reset it to default (i.e. just rename/move away the ioq3config.cfg file) to see if that makes a difference? finally I apologize for being unable to provide better support for your issue at the time.
