Server list

Post by Prywatne »

Hey, any idea why it stopped finding servers? I haven't changed anything.

it appears like the original master server at idsoftware/zenimax is down as of now which I assume is what you, as well as, the original client is using. for that matter the provided packages in this site for this mod use some custom master servers for these servers that are guarantee to be up as long as these servers keep running then please give a try to those in the mean time if you want. additionally you can probably just connect through the specify button in that same screen of through the \connect console command simply by entering unfreeze.fpsclassico.com:27961 as address. I hope that helps.

Code: Select all

/connect fpsclasico.eu:27962
/connect fpsclasico.eu:27961
This command solves the problem. Other players had the issue too. I don't know what the situation is like today.

it appears that it took them almost a week this time but it seems like finally the official master server at zenimax is back so I think that now the servers just should finally show as usual on every client.

yes, it seems so. strange, as while the master server downtime has been frequent over the years (almost every one-two years there seems to be at least one major days long outage in my experience) it's unusual that it's down twice in a row just like this barely a week after recovery (usually it tends to last months at least after a outage). as said, hopefully the provided packages and all the related services here will continue to work as normal so the people using them is not affected and they should continue to work even if the game (or anything else) completely shuts down (that I hope it does not). unfortunately, they are tough times for the gaming industry with widespread layoffs and closures of studios most notably at microsoft that now owns bethesda that in turn owns this Quake III Arena. I heard this last has been hit hard so I assume it will take them time to sort out everything. at the moment I doubt it will finally close as the last time I checked Quake III Arena was still on game pass (though in the premium tier now) and the costs of running a master server are virtually zero but I guess it will probably still take them some time.

A non-functional server means fewer players, not everyone types commands =(

it obviously has a impact, specially now that the game comes bundled with game pass, but still I checked before/yesterday and both servers were pretty busy so it's a lot less bad than what it used to be before the packages and hosting the whole thing. I remember back in 2012/2013 or so that there was another almost months long outage (also during the summer) that virtually almost completely killed the entire Quake III Arena scene altogether. I remember back then you just went from the usual 50 peak concurrent players to just having half a dozen people or ten at best and even after they recovered the master server it took years for the community to get back to what it used to be due the damage it caused. hopefully a lot has changed and now those 5-10 extra casual players is mostly what you loss every time there's a outage (or a server migration) and you still get all the usual community players all the same which is still a stark difference with before.
