Re: Glacius Maps
by the vent map, you mean phantq3dm6_mc? that map was specifically requested to be added not so long ago. most likely the player drop is because of people not having it due it being "new" rather than because of sucking. by the bunker map I'm not even really sure which one you mean but yes I think that after a while some changes to glacius can be made. out of something like 40 maps it shouldn't be a big deal to remove a few.

I don't suppose you will allow auto download atleast on glacius?adminless wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 0:33 by the vent map, you mean phantq3dm6_mc? that map was specifically requested to be added not so long ago. most likely the player drop is because of people not having due it being "new" rather than because of sucking. by the bunker map I'm not even really sure which one you mean but yes I think that after a while some changes to glacius can be made. out of something like 40 maps it shouldn't be a big deal to remove a few.

Yes, the phantq3dm6_mc map with the big blender vent... and cpm4a is what I refer to as bunker map... these seemingly make people leave a lot actually... not just my impression I guess...adminless wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 0:33 by the vent map, you mean phantq3dm6_mc? that map was specifically requested to be added not so long ago. most likely the player drop is because of people not having it due it being "new" rather than because of sucking. by the bunker map I'm not even really sure which one you mean but yes I think that after a while some changes to glacius can be made. out of something like 40 maps it shouldn't be a big deal to remove a few.
What would be good replacements?

Re: Glacius Maps
I think those two could probably be replaced by poq3dm5 and polo3dm5 for example that are already included on the packages as top classic ffa maps in case of special events but that can probably work as well good for public UnFreeZe games, that could be a option.

I would agree...adminless wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 9:50 I think those two could probably be replaced by poq3dm5 and polo3dm5 for example that are already included on the packages as top classic ffa maps in case of special events but that can probably work as well good for public UnFreeZe games, that could be a option.

Re: Glacius Maps
I'm not sure about polo in place of phantq3dm6_mc (if you ask me that map is better than polo) but from what I see I think that probably tomorrow or so I can replace cpm4a with poq3dm5. again not that it will play exceptionally but at least some better should do for this mode beside I assume I'll replace that map from the tournament/events too so it should run in glacius.

Re: Glacius Maps
ok after test it I just replaced cpm4a now from glacius (both rotations, the regular competitive 24/7 one and the extended custom one at the usual meeting times, will take effect starting tomorrow in server cycle) with poq3dm5 that I will also run for future events/tournaments. as said, not that it will play exceptionally but it should at least play some better than cpm4a (it should generally be fun for 6vs6 onward) that ran for a year already I think and it appears that it's not even hardly playable for pub games, let alone competitive 5vs5, and I assume the same people that played cpm4a would have played poq3dm5 all the same. as commented, this time I hope it shouldn't be a huge deal as that map has been included on the packages since several editions as a top pick for ffa events, that said, those still not using the packages will need to download that poq3dm5 file, unzip it and install themselves as usual to not miss any games at glacius.
as for phantq3dm6_mc after revision/consideration I think that I'll just leave it by now. quite frankly my feelings are that if people hated it, they would hate polo3dm5 yet even more here (yes polo is good old school map but just for vq3 for anything else, specially with modified/different physics, it probably just plays like shit). in my opinion there's even worse maps in glacius already than phantq3dm6_mc, phantq3dm6_mc is actually the definitive map by well known mapper phantazm11 well known for all time great works like phantq3dm1_rev, phantq3dm3_rev, phantq3dm4 etc etc not saying with that it's the best map ever but overall I think it should be ok map for a fun public server.

Re: Glacius Maps
Would deletion without replacement be an option then?
If not, we at least will always have a breaking point to end a Glaccy night... (again, just look at the player count when that map showed up... people left to spec or completely one after another). Or, we can still ask everyone to jump into the vent to end that map quickly, this happened in the past as well, but I fear that patience is lower these days...
As always, thank you for everything you do.

Re: Glacius Maps
yes, if it's so bad I think that it can just be removed. that probably looks like the better option as polo is gonna trash it all the same and looking up for new maps doesn't really look like a option at the moment (i.e. people won't have them so even more trash). ok, I just removed it so far from glacius then until somebody request it again or something.

Re: Glacius Maps
I was thinking about having a fixed Glacius rotation and post every week , posting the map links download individually. I am willing to help organize, updating and maintaining the topics weekly if the idea gets approved.
Example: This week rotation
A ( download link )
B ( download link )
C ( download link )
D ( download link )
etc , same way it was handled in the Ctf tournament
That'd make people not having to download 240mb of maps, make it easier to add and remove maps out of the rotation , can filter out unpopular maps based off community feedback etc , just an idea

Re: Glacius Maps
thanks for the input, I think that fixing the rotation, given the circumstances at some point could be a option given there's enough demand for that. other than that having to download maps in a regular basis, let alone weekly, it's a much worse situation than just downloading and installing a complete map pack once. I think that should be out of question.

Re: Glacius Maps
I've witnessed ( was 1 year ago ish ) people who supposedly had downloaded the "complete" pack missing maps. We manage to reach them out and sending to them the maps individually. Fixing the rotation would allow people to know beforehand if they have the maps or not , having both "complete" pack and individual maps links available would help.
I didn't express myself properly , maps shouldn't be added and removed regularly , we already have a very large roster of maps in the glacius complete pack ( I doubt I've played half of them ), the idea would be a global announcement of what shall be played in the week specifically , redundancy of possibilities to download the maps ( either individually or as a bundle )
I understand your no-autodownload policy since I've witness soft ddoses happening with multiple clients downloading and leeching resources of the servers ( happened in OpenArena , the malicious clients were infinitely downloading files ) , probably other reasons not mentioned in public.

Re: Glacius Maps
well that among many other things. I wrote it way too many times already, the auto download thing in this game was designed for a internet era and context that doesn't even exist/apply anymore and it's completely obsolete/doesn't even make any sense by any 2010+ standards let alone by (almost) 2025, more than 25 years later. that's the way it's. yes, yes, don't worry that I had understood you. beside the well known packages and map packs you have linked all the individual maps available for download at the forum files tab. I believe almost everybody around here already knows that. beside every time I add a new map I also post it here (just like that poq3dm5 above). I know, the thing with the "complete" package (yes, "complete" package as you wrote) is that is obviously only complete at the time of posting not 2-3 years in the future. so yeah of course it happens often that people download such complete package and completely forget about the issue, then maps get added/removed just as requested here and then they blame it in the now "complete" package as you write. again, it's the way it's, people need to be up to date with what's going on in one way or another.

Auto download was problematic due to internet providers speed bandwidth problems
But today 2024 most that play on your servers have a good connection so to me makes nonsense not to have it on part of the servers like glacius
I don't play glacius much anyway but I probably missing something here
